I finished this painting in early April but have been slow to post due to the strangeness and worries of COVID-19 and the Shelter In Place order. Still, working on art has been a comfort and something of an anchor while so many other things in my life are different.
This painting provides even more of an anchor to the past than most, as I started it four years ago, shortly after Catherine’s Walk, but didn’t finish it then. Here are two of the unfinished attempts, one in pen & ink alone and the other in pen, ink, and watercolor.
I’m pretty happy with both of these, actually, especially the second one with its almost ominous atmosphere. But the process with gouache and casein is so much more freeing.
